Mayor Kaler's 2016 Student Christmas Ornament Contest

At the December 6 City Commission meeting, Mayor Gayle Kaler recognized the winners of the 2016 Student Christmas Ornament Contest.  Mayor Kaler asked students, kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Paducah-McCracken County, to hand-craft Christmas ornaments.  The public is invited to come to City Hall during regular business hours through the end of December to view the ornaments on the tree in the lobby. The ornaments were judged with special consideration given to using recycled or natural materials and/or featuring Paducah’s history, landmarks, or name.  

Aiden Chino received the first place award for the K-3rd grade category.  Emmy Seaton received the first place award with Ella Crider receiving the second place award for the 4th-8th grade category.  Eric Gericke received the first place award for the 9th-12th grade category.

Mayor Kaler's 2015 Student Christmas Ornament Contest

At the December 8 City Commission meeting at City Hall, Mayor Gayle Kaler recognized the winners of the 2015 Student Christmas Ornament Contest.  Mayor Kaler asked students, kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Paducah, to hand-craft Christmas ornaments.  Mayor Kaler received 32 ornaments.  The 2015 winners are as follows:

Kindergarten through 3rd grade:

1st Place – Eliza Esper

2nd Place – Nikeshia Davis

3rd Place – Ferris Baker

4th through 8th grade:

1st Place – Marina Singler

2nd Place – Rayven Davis

3rd Place – Azhane Greenway

9th through 12th grade

1st Place – Elizabeth Barnes

2nd Place – Anitra Hill

3rd Place – Autumn Summers

 

2014 Winners

At the December 9, 2014 City Commission meeting at City Hall, Mayor Gayle Kaler recognized the winners of the Student Christmas Ornament Contest. Mayor Kaler asked students, kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Paducah, to hand-craft Christmas ornaments. Mayor Kaler received 74 ornaments. The winners are as follows:

Kindergarten through 3rd grade:

  • 1st Place – Katelyn Higdon
  • 2nd Place – Mary Claire Kemp
  • 3rd Place – Caroline Crider

4th through 8th grade:

  • 1st Place – Renee Chua
  • 2nd Place – Ryan Chua
  • 3rd Place – Ryan Gillituk
  • Honorable Mention – Erin Gillituk 

9th through 12th grade

  • 1st Place – Jessica Lopez
  • 2nd Place – Nakitia Finch
  • 3rd Place – Vanessa Davis
  • Honorable Mention – Milan Doan

Emily Sanders’ first grade class at Clark Elementary received the Most Poetic Award. On each ornament, the students finished the sentence “my gift to the world is…” Brenda Cantwell’s first grade class at Clark Elementary received the Christmas Spirit Award for crafting ornaments in the shape of small Christmas trees. Morgan Elementary School’s Art Club under the direction of art teacher Carrie Thompson received an award for the Best Use of Recycled Materials. Their Coca-Cola-themed ornaments used red and green bottle caps. Students at Paducah Tilghman High School under the direction of art teacher Ruth Baggett received the Best Combination of Art, History, and Materials award for their use of materials to create ornaments focusing on Paducah’s culture and history.   

2013 Winners

Mayor Kaler received 130 ornaments, and all of them were placed on the tree in the lobby of City Hall.  They were judged with special consideration given to ornaments that used recycled or natural materials and featured Paducah’s history, landmarks, or name.  The winners of the contest were recognized at the December 10 City Commission meeting at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.  The winners are as follows:

Clark Elementary received an award for Most Christmas Spirit for submitting 94 ornaments for the contest.  Many of the students and their teachers visited City Hall on December 5, 2013 to view the tree, hear a story about Christmas, and tour City Hall.

Morgan Elementary received an award for the Best Use of Materials. Morgan’s Art Club submitted 11 ornaments created from recycled Christmas cards.
