Cause of Boiler Explosion at Dar Pro Ingredients Under Investigation

The cause of a mid-morning explosion of a boiler at Dar Pro Ingredients located at 1350 North 10th Street in Paducah is under investigation.  The call came in at 10:16 a.m.  One employee sustained minor injuries and was transported for treatment at a local hospital. 

Currently, North 10th Street between Fluornoy and Northview Streets is closed to traffic as agencies investigate the cause of the explosion.

The Paducah Fire Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Paducah Police Department, a boiler inspector with the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings & Construction, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office.

For safety precautions, Atmos Energy has capped the gas connection to the plant.  Work is underway to inspect the structural integrity of the damaged section of the building.  Furthermore, contractors are working to restore the refrigeration and sprinkler systems to the undamaged section of the facility. 

Seventeen employees and the plant manager were working at the plant at the time of the explosion.
