Location: Morgan Elementary School, 2200 South 28th Street
Suspects: Four Juveniles, ages 12, 14, 12 and 15, charged with second-degree arson, possession of alcohol by a minor and criminal mischief
Charges have been filed against four juveniles after they started a fire at Morgan Elementary School.
A man told police he was driving on South 28th Street Saturday morning and saw smoke coming from the school, and four youths standing around the fire. The man asked the youths what they were doing and told them he was calling the police, and said that they replied, “Call the police. We don’t care.”
Officer Linda Hodgson and firefighters arrived and found a fire had been started against the school building and two security lights had been broken. There were three empty alcoholic beverage containers on the ground at the scene.
The witness described the youths and said he had heard them in a nearby creek. Sgt. Rob Hefner located the four youths at a soccer field near Brooks Stadium, and detained them. At that time, they had in their possession three unopened alcoholic beverages. Detective Justin Hodges was called out to investigate. He interviewed the youths and released them to their parents.
Charges of second-degree arson, possession of alcohol by a minor and criminal mischief have been filed against the four.
