Suspect: Shirley A. Mitchell, 42, of the 1200 block of South 6th Street, arrested on a charge of second-degree assault
An argument last night escalated and ended with a man at the hospital with knife wounds and a woman in jail.
Officers were called about 10 p.m. Monday to a reported stabbing at a home in the 1200 block of South 6th Street. Det. Nathan Jaimet was called out, and spoke with Arthur Williams, 58, at Baptist Health Paducah.
Williams told the detective that he and Shirley Mitchell, with whom he lives, were arguing and she cut him on the hand with a knife. Williams also sustained superficial cuts to his cheek and neck, Jaimet said.
Mitchell came to the police department and spoke with Jaimet. She changed her story several times, but finally said she had grabbed a knife during an argument and that Williams may have cut himself when he pushed her.
Mitchell was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
