The Paducah Police Department is proud to report that major crimes in Paducah have hit at least a 21-year low. In 2010, the department had 43,707 calls for service with roughly 7 percent of those calls (3402) leading to a criminal report. The department made 2840 arrests in 2010. About half (46% involve drugs or alcohol violations).
Part I Crimes
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is responsible for tracking crime in the United States through their Uniform Crime Report. As part of their report, the FBI considers eight types of crime to be Part I Crimes: murder, forcible rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson. In 2010, Paducah saw a decrease in Part I Crimes by almost 16 percent as compared to 2009. In 2010, Paducah saw 1314 Part I offenses, 238 fewer than in 2009. Robberies were the only crime that increased slightly.

Part II Crimes
Part II crimes also decreased in Paducah by 2 percent in comparing 2010 to 2009. Part II crimes include the following types of crime: simple assaults, forgery and counterfeiting, fraud, criminal mischief, weapons offenses, sexual offenses (other than rape), drug abuse violations, offenses against family and children, and all other offenses not includied in Part I crimes. The total number of Part II crimes in Paducah for 2010 is 2739.

Monthly Crime Statistics
Each month, the Paducah Police Department compiles a report of crime statistics. Statistics include number of major crimes, adult arrests, juvenile arrests, traffic citations/charges, traffic accidents, parking tickets, and noise violations. The report also shows the percent change between years and year-to-date percent change. At the bottom of each monthly report, more information about major crimes is detailed. The crime classifications include murder, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson. In the report, TBUT is the abbreviation for "Theft by Unlawful Taking."
