The Paducah Parks Services maintains 28 areas in the Paducah Parks Services system. This land is located across the city and includes the most visible city parks like Noble and Schultz parks as well as smaller green areas like Caldwell park (14th and Park Ave), newer additions like Lanelle Park (4524 Buckner Lane) and the public cemetery (Oak Grove Cemetery). The Parks Maintenance division maintains the right of ways surrounding bridges, viaducts, drainage ditches and other areas on city land. The Park Maintenance division maintains city of land that are not public parks (information Age and industrial west information age parks, the police station, city hall and other land around city buildings are maintained.

Staff and Responsibilities
The Park Maintenance is comprised of 17 full time staff: 14 Laborers, 2 supervisors and 1 superintendent. During the busy months of summer an additional part time and 10 temporary employees are employed. These staff help keep all the parks in the system mowed, policed for litter, equipment repaired, sports fields lined and special events set up. Over the course of the year our staff is responsible for the following duties:
| 1. Mowing: Park maintenance strives to mow approximately 447 acres of land regularly. In order to maintain the parks according to the level of use they get some areas are mowed often more than others. Baseball/softball fields, playgrounds and other high use areas are mowed weekly and sometimes biweekly. Natural Areas, right of ways and vacant lots the City owns may be mowed less regularly. In the fall and winter mowing shifts to leaf mulching and removal. |

| 2. Maintenance: Park maintenance performs the minor repairs in the parks. Park maintenance replaces basketball, tennis and soccer nets, repairs picnic tables and replaces damaged playground equipment. The park Maintenance division is also responsible for maintaining all the small engine equipment used to maintain the parks. Parks staff repairs mowers, string trimmers, blowers and other items. |

| 3. Event set Up: The Park maintenance assists with the set up and tear down of several festivals and events. The park maintenance division sets up stages, barricades, temporary fences and tables. Park Maintenance assists in the preparations for The Ice Rink, Bar B Que on the river, the Quilt Show, Summer Festival, 8th of August, Bikes on Broadway, 5K runs in Noble Park and a number of events. |

| 4. Landscaping: Park maintenance is responsible for weeding, planting, watering and fertilizing many landscaped areas in the downtown parking lots, Broadway, Riverfront and Noble Park. The Civic Beatification Board and many private garden clubs maintain a large number of landscaped areas in Noble Park and in the downtown area in “adopt a spots”. |

| 5. Sports Facilities: Park maintenance is responsible for preparing and maintaining 11 baseball/softball fields, 6 soccer fields, 1 par-3, 9-hole golf course, 7 horseshoe pits and 5 basketball courts, 6 tennis courts, 1 sand volleyball court, 1 18-hole disc golf course and 1 skate park. |

| 6. Oak Grove Cemetery: Park maintenance is responsible for the mowing and upkeep of the city owned cemetery. Parks Maintenance staff mows, maintains, locates existing graves, locates new graves and repairs old monuments. |

Tree/Park Bench Memorials
It is the policy of Parks Services to accept donations for the purpose of planting trees and installing benches within City Parks to memorialize a departed family member or friend or to commemorate a special occasion.

Community Garden Program
Thank you to Boy Scout Matthew Rea for working to double the size of the Community Garden for his Eagle project. There are now 40 plots in the garden. Call Parks at 444-8508 to rent a plot. The Community Garden provides an opportunity for citizens to rent plots for $20 from March to October for the an organic garden. Last year all the plots were rented so don't wait until the last minute if you're interested.
