City of Paducah Flag at Half Staff in Honor of Mary Hammond

Mary HammondMayor George Bray has directed the City of Paducah flag be lowered to half-staff from today through Sunday in honor of Mary Hammond. The City of Paducah was saddened to learn of the passing of Hammond on March 3.  

Mary Hammond served the community in multiple roles including executive director of the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau, member of the Paducah Civic Beautification and National Quilt Museum boards, and Paducah Ambassador.

The Paducah Civic Beautification Board is donating seven dogwoods in honor of Mary Hammond. They will be planted Monday at Dolly McNutt Memorial Plaza.

In Hammond’s 23 years as executive director for the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau, she was dedicated to promoting her community and achieving international recognition for Paducah with Paducah’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City in 2013 as a pinnacle of accomplishments.

As stated in Hammond’s obituary by Glenn Denton, chairman of the Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau, “Each and every year, day after day, she’s outworked and surpassed everyone, and her legacy is going to live for a very long time.”
