Today, the Honorable Geraldine Biggs Montgomery, a former Mayor of Paducah, City Commissioner, and admired public servant, passed away.  On behalf of the Paducah Board of Commissioners and the City staff, I want to express my deepest condolences to Montgomery’s family and friends.

Former Mayor Montgomery served the Paducah community with grace and a dedication to preserving and promoting our beautiful city.  In her time as Mayor, she focused on revitalizing our parks and historic downtown Paducah.  In 2018, we were honored to celebrate with Mayor Montgomery by formally naming the lake at Bob Noble Park as Lake Gerry B. Montgomery.

Mayor Montgomery also founded the Paducah Ambassadors in 1988.  We know them as the “Red Coats,” a group of amazing people who welcome visitors with warmth, smiles, and stories of our city.

Gerry Montgomery served as Mayor from 1988 until 1996 and as City Commissioner from 2001 through 2004.  She was a visionary leader who inspired everyone to take care of each other and their community.

I ask everyone to take a moment, think of Mayor Montgomery in her red coat as an Ambassador, and say a sincere thank you to her for her service to our community.

Sincerely,

Mayor George P. Bray
