UPDATE - Temporary Closure of Section of James Sanders Boulevard Near Kentucky Oaks Mall to Replace Pipe

Date of Release:
April 08, 2024

Due to the forecast of several days of rainfall this week, the work to replace a section of pipe under James Sanders Boulevard is postponed until Monday, April 15. Beginning on that date, a section of James Sanders Boulevard will be closed to traffic for the replacement of a deteriorated, 96-inch diameter storm pipe. The contractor working for the City of Paducah, Jim Smith Contracting, will replace approximately 110 linear feet of the pipe to improve stormwater flow and drainage.

To complete the work, crews will close James Sanders Boulevard at the four-way stop intersection with Ring Road located at the northeast corner of Kentucky Oak Mall. This is the intersection between the Mall and Ollie’s. Traffic flowing north on James Sanders Boulevard will be permitted to turn at the intersection; however, through traffic will not be permitted.

This work will not affect the businesses in the vicinity since three legs of the intersection will remain open in addition to business entrances. Detour signs will be placed at Jordan Drive to help with the traffic flow. The work to replace the 96-inch pipe is expected to be completed in two weeks, weather-permitting. The reconstruction of the curbs and gutters and asphalt paving of the road will occur later this spring.

Please note that the private property owner of the parking lot adjacent to the intersection will be replacing 100 feet of the pipe as well. This will require the closure a portion of the parking lot located between Planet Fitness and Hobby Lobby.

Please use caution, watch for the work crews, and respect the traffic control devices.

The City of Paducah maintains more than 220 miles of streets.
