Homeowner Confronts Burglar

Suspect: Justin M. Williams, 25, of the 100 block of Glenn Street, arrested on a charge of second-degree burglary

A McCracken County man was arrested early this morning after he broke into a home on Caldwell Street, but fled when confronted by the homeowner.

Kyle P. Katterjohn of the 1100 block of Caldwell Street called police at 2:39 a.m., saying a young man had broken into his locked back porch.

Officer Lofton Rowley arrived and began searching the area, and found wires at the rear of the residence had been cut. He also located an insurance card bearing the name “Justin Williams.”

As Rowley was arriving at the Katterjohn residence, Officer Kevin Wilson was enroute there and came upon a white male walking at Brown Street and Irvin Cobb Drive. He was the young man was shirtless, but had in his possession a large buck knife and a flashlight. He told Wilson that his name was Justin Williams.

Williams was taken into custody and admitted having been at the Katterjohn residence and prying open the porch door. He said he fled when the homeowner fired a handgun.

Katterjohn told police he fired two rounds from a handgun into the air, but did not aim at Williams. Williams told officers where he discarded his shirt and a pair of pliers used to cut the wires behind the house.

Williams was charged with second-degree burglary and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
