Paducah Receives Third Boaters’ Choice Award for Transient Boat Dock

Date of release:  December 13, 2019

2019 Boaters' Choice has notified the City of Paducah that Paducah’s Transient Boat Dock is a recipient of the 2019 Boaters’ Choice Award.  This is the third consecutive year for Paducah to receive the award which honors marinas and docks that consistently provide an excellent home for the boating community and received the most praise throughout the year from boaters.

According to, 249 marinas/docking facilities are being honored for going the extra mile in 2019 for boaters. The Boaters’ Choice Award is based on reviews by boaters.  To be recognized, each facility had to receive at least five reviews averaging a rating of four or more stars out of five stars.

City Manager Jim Arndt says, “The Transient Boat Dock is an amazing facility that is receiving much attention from the boaters, especially the Great Loopers who look forward to stopping in Paducah.  I appreciate this recognition from and all of the boaters who took the time to submit a review.  They are giving us incredible feedback and helping to spread the word about what Paducah has to offer.  As we move forward with the Greenway Trail extension and the BUILD grant projects to improve the riverfront area, I expect the excitement for Paducah from the boating community to continue to grow.”

Parks & Recreation Department Director Mark Thompson says, “We are proud to receive the Boaters’ Choice Award in all three years of operation. This award has been earned by a committed effort by the staff of Team Paducah.  I continue to enjoy reading the reviews from boaters who visit Paducah’s Transient Boat Dock.  They enjoy not only the time they spend on the river but also their time in the various ports.  Boaters truly enjoy walking downtown and exploring Paducah’s various businesses and points of interest.  We have an ongoing goal of giving them a destination that they want to visit time and time again.”

Below are a couple of the reviews posted by boaters who enjoyed Paducah’s amenities in 2019.

  • John, Jay, & Blaine, were the most helpful Dock personnel we have experienced in 4,000 miles. They were always available and would accommodate every request/need we had great job guys!
  • We only stayed one night but thoroughly enjoyed it. We were a late arriver but we were welcomed by everyone else staying on the dock. The next morning, we took a short walk into town where the Farmers’ Market was going on. We also enjoyed breakfast at the Gold Rush Cafe. The dock hands were very helpful. They made sure to accommodate as many people as possible. We will be back since this is close to home.

In 2019, 358 boats docked at Paducah’s Transient Boat Dock spending a total of 554 nights.

Paducah’s 340-foot long Transient Boat Dock is located downstream from the heart of historic downtown Paducah and provides space for transient boaters to enjoy Paducah by spending a few hours or several nights.  Amenities include fuel (diesel and marine grade gasoline) and power pedestals.  The availability of water and the sewer pumpout station is seasonal with both of those amenities currently drained and winterized to prevent the freezing of pipes.
