Section 8 Housing Offices are Moving to Housing Authority of Paducah

Date of release:  January 9, 2019

The City of Paducah and the Housing Authority of Paducah are partnering to improve the housing services for the community by relocating the Section 8 offices from City Hall to the Housing Authority of Paducah.  The offices will be moved to Elmwood Court located at 2330 Ohio Street.  To facilitate the transition, the Section 8 offices will be closed from January 17 through January 21.  The offices will open to public on Tuesday, January 22 at their new location at Elmwood Court.

City Manager Jim Arndt says, “This partnership between the City and the Housing Authority to move the Section 8 offices to a more convenient location makes a lot of sense.  As we are striving to be the best city, this relocation allows for an improvement in the customer experience since the Section 8 clients can also find out about Housing Authority services at one location.”

Housing Authority of Paducah Executive Director Tommy Hollimon says, “The Housing Authority of Paducah is extremely excited about this partnership with the City of Paducah.  By uniting the location, staff, and experience of our organizations, we can now provide solutions for all of Paducah’s low-income and moderate-income families.  The public housing waiting list is currently open, and we will work to open the Section 8 waiting list soon after the move is completed.  This will allow residents to apply for either Public Housing, Section 8 assistance, or both at one location, at one time.  We look forward to helping each and every resident Move In, Move Up, and Move Ahead.”

In November 2018, the Paducah Board of Commissioners approved a contract with the Housing Authority of Paducah for the administration and management of the Section 8 program.

The Section 8 offices can be reached by calling 270-444-8542.  During the office transition, please leave a message so that your call can be returned.  Once the Section 8 offices reopen on January 22, the office hours will be 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The program commonly known as the Section 8 Housing Program is properly named the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV).  It’s designed to assist low and moderate-income families in leasing rental properties from private landlords. The HCV program was expanded in the early 2000s to also render mortgage assistance to qualified families who wish to make a first time home purchase.  The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) created under the Housing & Community Development Act of 1974.
