To restore Paducah’s tree canopy and provide shade trees for future generations, the Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications through January 9 for the Tree Voucher Program. After a review and approval period, owners of single-family residences in Paducah, Kentucky, will receive a $250 voucher in February for the purchase of an approved tree species at a local participating nursery.
The Paducah Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications beginning November 15 for the Tree Voucher Program. This program is for owners of single-family residential property within the Paducah city limits to receive a $250 voucher for the purchase of shade trees at a local participating nursery.
Tree Voucher Program Details and Application
“This initiative is designed to encourage Paducah homeowners to plant trees on their private property to enhance Paducah’s tree canopy and ensure that future generations can enjoy the benefits of shade trees,” said Mayor George Bray. “None of us likes to see large mature trees removed for development projects, but sometimes it is necessary. This program will allow our citizens the opportunity to help replace trees that have been removed and make a real impact on the future of Paducah’s tree canopy. Trees improve air quality, provide shade that can reduce utility costs, and enhance neighborhood beauty. Paducah’s Tree Voucher Program is one of the most effective and beautiful ways we can invest in our city’s future.”
Paducah Parks and Recreation Director Amie Clark highlighted the environmental benefits of the program. “Expanding and replenishing our urban canopy helps reduce heat, manage stormwater, and support local wildlife,” said Clark. “This program makes it easier for residents to take part in that effort and see the positive impact right in their own yards and neighborhoods.”
Over the past few weeks, the Parks and Recreation Department has been developing the program and working with the two local participating nurseries, James Sanders Nursery and Edwards Nursery, to ensure that there will be plenty of shade trees available for purchase. Once a voucher is used at a nursery, the nursery will invoice the city for the cost of the trees up to $250. Planting, delivery, and maintenance are the responsibility of the property owner. Those costs are not included in the voucher program.
The Tree Voucher Program is limited to specific tree species and sizes. This program is for shade trees not ornamentals. Applications for the Tree Voucher Program are open from November 15, 2025, through January 9, 2026. Property owners can apply online at Tree Voucher Program or in person at the Parks and Recreation Office located at 2701 Park Avenue during business hours.
After a review process, vouchers will be issued in February 2026 so that trees can be purchased for the spring planting season. Informational postcards will be arriving next week at residential addresses in Paducah.
The City of Paducah has budgeted $150,000 for this program. Vouchers will be valid through December 2026.
