Delivery of Rainbow Trout and Survey of Catfish Population this Month at Lake Montgomery

Date of Release:
October 14, 2025

The City of Paducah and the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources are partners in the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FINs) program. On Wednesday, October 15, the KDFWR will deliver 1500 rainbow trout to Lake Montgomery in Bob Noble Park.

Also, this month, the KDFWR will survey the lake’s catfish population by taking length and weight measurements. To accomplish this task, baited hoop nets will be set on October 21 with collection on October 24. The public will see boats in the lake as KDFWR staff check the condition and size of the lake’s catfish.

The goal of the FINs program is to provide high quality fishing opportunities near cities of all sizes throughout Kentucky. Since rainbow trout prefer cold water, the KDFWR stocks them at Lake Montgomery during the cooler months of February, March, and October. The department stocks channel catfish during the warmer months of March, April, May, and June.

Anglers 16 years old and older need a State fishing license, unless license exempt. There is a Resident Senior License for folks 65 and older. For FINs lakes including Lake Montgomery, the daily limit is five rainbow trout and four catfish.

The FINs program began in 2006 with Lake Montgomery added to the program in 2010. The program currently includes more than 40 lakes statewide. For more information about the FINs program including the license requirements, daily limits, and stocking schedules, visit FINs Program.
