Mission and History
The Mission of the Paducah Civic Beautification Board (CBB) is to create a more pleasing environment within our community through the instigation, association, cooperation, and coordination of individuals, organizations, businesses, and government on local, state, and national levels. It is our civic duty to act in an advisory capacity to the City, to enhance the visual beauty and preserve the historical values of the community, and to promote environmental stewardship.
In September 1959, seven local groups organized themselves into a Community Council of Garden Clubs. The overall purpose of the new council was to unify the efforts of the various clubs toward beautifying Paducah and McCracken County. In May 1960, the Council became affiliated with the Sears-Roebuck and Company HANDS program (Home and Neighborhood Development Sponsors). Through this program, funds were made available to garden clubs in promoting a campaign of beautification, preservation, and rehabilitation of urban areas. The Paducah Board of Commissioners, recognizing the success of the programs initiated and executed by our Board, adopted on July 5, 1960 an ordinance making the Board an Advisory Board to the City. The Civic Beautification Board, governed by Paducah Code of Ordinances Section 2-381 through 2-384, meets the second Monday of each month at noon in City Hall. The meetings are open to the public. Prospective Board members are proposed by application for membership by an existing member of the CBB. Board members are approved by the Paducah City Commission. Civic Beautification Board Initiatives
- Adopt-A-Spot

The Paducah Civic Beautification Board, in conjunction with the City of Paducah, manages the Adopt-A-Spot program. The program encourages, individuals, organizations, and businesses to improve the environment and appearance of our community by adopting a small public area in the City. Adopt-A-Spot sites range from large areas in the city that would be ideal for groups to sponsor or small plantings on public property and right-of-ways.
