Metropolitan Planning Organization Designation - Public Comment Period Open for Unified Planning Work Program

Date of Release:
March 27, 2024

In 2023, the Paducah-McCracken Metropolitan Planning Organization (PMcMPO) was designated by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet; the Illinois Department of Transportation; the City of Paducah; the City of Brookport, Illinois; McCracken County; and Livingston County, Kentucky. This is a significant achievement for Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois as it has the potential to unlock federal grants that will provide resources for planning as well as the improvement of the safety and efficiency of our local road system.

The PMcMPO is inviting public comment on its draft Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) for the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1. The UPWP is a federally required document that communicates to the public and stakeholders how their federal transportation planning dollars will be used on regional planning activities during the next fiscal year.

The Purchase Area Development District provides staff support for the PMcMPO with Paducah Mayor George Bray and Paducah City Manager Daron Jordan serving on the MPO’s executive board. Mayor Bray is the executive board’s chairman.

Mayor Bray said, “Our recent designation as an MPO is a significant win for Paducah and McCracken County and is a result of the growth that has occurred through population expansion. This Unified Planning Work Program document is a required element that outlines various MPO work tasks, expected staff hours, and cost summaries. After receiving public comment, the plan will be on the agenda for approval at the MPO’s April meeting. We are excited about the opportunity for our region to access more federal transportation dollars.”

The public comment review period is open until April 21. Comments may be submitted by email at paducahmccrackenmpopurchaseadd.org or to the mailing address below:
