2023 Emancipation Celebration and Parade
Theme and Dates - The theme of the 2023 8th of August Emancipation Celebration is "I Am My Ancestors." Events are scheduled for August 2 through August 7, 2023.
Parade - The annual Emancipation Celebration Parade organized by the W.C. Young Community Center will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Notice that the parade is starting an hour earlier this year as compared to previous years. Parade line-up begins at 9 a.m. The parade, which typically attracts approximately 60 entries, will start at 12th and Broadway and will proceed down Broadway to Walter Jetton Boulevard. The parade will then turn right on Walter Jetton and finish at Robert Coleman Park. Festivities and vendors will be at Robert Coleman Park immediately after the parade and throughout the afternoon and early evening.
